Nazis Raus

A new store selling far-right clothes and kitsch has been open in Mitte since February 1. Apparently the building owner didn’t know what kind of store it would be and now wants to evict them. Not easy in Berlin. There’s a demonstration starting at Oranienburgerstrasse today at 5pm; Gridskipper and The Economist have more details.

  1. The Economist, along with most of the German ‘bourgeois’ press, states, over-carefully, that “the clothing brand is popular with right-wing extremists”. No wonder. The company was set up by and funds the far-right. An interesting point is also that since they were forced to abandon their SS-rune-logo, Norway aren’t too happy over its replacement with the Norwegian flag, and are attempting legal action. In any case, Tonsberg had a branch in the Markthalle/Berlin Carré at Alexanderplatz until this new branch opened – they were in the Markthalle for a good few years. Apparently some letterwriting caused the landlord to throw them out, eventually. There are other shops that specialise in the brand, without being exclusively ‘Thor Steinar’ places, though.

  2. Like ‘Doorbreaker’ for example, with baseballbats as door-handles. How charming.

According to this report – http://de.indymedia.org/2005/12/135483.shtml -, they also sell the following brands: “Sport-Frei”, “H8-Wear”, “Rizist” and “Pro Violence”. Also see the picture up close – http://media.de.indymedia.org/images/2005/12/135484.jpg – and note the ‘jewellery’ the devil-doll is wearing. A picture of the window display in the Marzahn branch.

The clothing chain “Snow & Sun” (hm, nice initials), related to “Doorbreaker” also sells Thor Steinar gear. Also in your local charmless shopping center.
