As long as Obama’s in Berlin, it may be worth revisiting the scurrilous idea that Hitler was a “socialist,” or even somehow left-leaning. Let’s just say that if you believe that, you deserve to live in a totalitarian state.

A talk radio guy today said that this quote was stupid because “preconditions” and “preparations” were the “same thing.” His argument was that it was more fancy language that confuses things.
“On Wednesday Obama said he would be willing to meet with any leader if he thought it would promote the national security interests of the United States, but he said there is a difference between ‘meeting without preconditions and meeting without preparations.’” (From a wire story)
It’s scary how things can get twisted. Especially history, but even in a news cycle. Your post reminds me of that just in the last few hours.

I’ve been reading your stuff for a while and I wanted to tell you that I’ve got a novel coming out next month about the end of Nazi Germany that I think you might find interesting. It’s called GERMANIA, its being put out in the US by Simon & Schuster and its about Grand Admiral Doenitz’ “Flensburg Reich.” Albert Speer is one of the protaganists the others are Ziggy, Manni, Franzi, and Sebastian Loerber, known to Weimar Berlin as The Flying Magical Loerber Brothers. You may not remember them, they were probably a bit before your time, but like Grock the Clown, The Tiller Girls, and the Comedian Harmonist, they were the toast of Old Berlin. why don’t you contact Kelly Welsh, Kelly.Welsh@simonandschuster.com and tell her you want to write about it for your website and, geeze maybe Speigel on line or summat. Just a though. Cheers, brendan mcnally, prague

Hey Brendan, good to meet you. I’ll have a look. Spiegel Online has no cultural coverage, though, unfortunately. But good luck with the novel.
